- Hiya!
-
- I haven't done a BBS review for you folks in a while, and I
-
- was thinking about doing just that when the mail brought me
-
- an interesting letter a few weeks back. Written by Howard T.
-
- Perry, of Advanced Electronics Technologies, it invited me to
-
- visit a bulletin board sponsored by AET, the AET BBS. Always
-
- on the lookout for systems that cater to radio hobbyists, it
-
- didn't take much twisting of the arm to get me to pay a
-
- visit. And I'm sure glad I did!

- AET BBS
-
- Here's a brief overview:
-
- AET BBS FidoNet 1:379/16, Charlotte, NC
- Line 1 704-545-7076 - 1200-14400 baud HST, v.32 & MNP
- Line 2 704-545-1205 - 1200-2400 baud MNP
-
- The BBS runs Wildcat! software on a network with four 650 meg
-
- CD ROM drives and 600 meg of hard drive storage. The system
-
- contains over 22,000 files with a total of 3100 meg of on-
-
- line storage.
-
-
-
- Along with dozens of Amateur Radio, Shortwave and Scanner-
-
- related files, AET has file areas dedicated to programming
-
- aids and utilities, UFO-related text files, games and IBM
-
- public domain and shareware programs and (if you're into that
-
- kind of thing) 120 meg of adult graphics.
-
-
-
- AET is also a regional BBS for the National Computer Security
-
- Association in Washington, DC. There are over 1,000 virus
-
- control and computer security related files available on-line
-
- for download by users, including the famed Computer
-
- Underground Digest.
-
-
-
- 2600 MEG OF FILES ON CD ROM
-
- The CD-ROM Doors were what really interested me. The system
-
- boasts 6 active Doors, each accessing on-line CD-ROM storage
-
- that covers everything from the CIA World Factbook database
-
- to an an on-line Call Sign Directory that boasts 500,000
-
- entries.
-
-
-
- Of special interest to Radioscan readers is a seventh Door
-
- (currently under construction) that will open up to an
-
- optical disk with over 4,000 downloadable Amateur Radio
-
- programs!
-
-
-
-
- AND FILES, FILES, FILES
-
- Here's a sampling of files that are available:
-
- FILTER11.ZIP 33k Hi & Lo Pass Filter Calculation Program
- LAN158.ZIP 232k PK232 TNC Controller Program - Menu Driven

- NIGLBEST.TXT 54k The Best of UK Scanner Club's Newsletters

-
- And there's more. AET BBS is a node on the FidoNet Echo
-
- system and carries several radio-related Echos, and there are
-
- some special file areas, as well - one dedicated to Scanner
-
- Tips by R.P. Meggs and another featuring columns by Yours
-
- Truly and Havana Moon - all these columns are available for
-
- download, as well!
-
-
-
- This system is one of the largest I have ever seen and it's
-
- maintained with a great sense of pride by Howard Perry and
-
- his co-sysop.
-
-
-
- Don't miss out. Visit the Advanced Electronics Technologies
-
- BBS. Like me, you'll be glad you did!
